About Me
Hello, I'm Doris.
Like most women, I wear several "hats." I am the wife of a wonderful man (Brandon Hawkins for over 47 years), the mother of two fine young men (Neil & Ashton), the mother-in-law of a lovely young lady (Kristie), and the grandmother of a smart and beautiful granddaughter (Kayleigh).
Another "hat" for me is that of a teacher. For over 36 years, I taught in the public school system. As an elementary school teacher, I saw things that would melt my heart and things that would bring me to tears. I love the children and am very grateful for the opportunity that I had to work with them.
My experience in teaching extends from the elementary to the university level. Having taught for over five years at the college level and worked with countless student teachers, I have tried to help young educators prepare for the challenges and blessings of teaching. I continue to teach at the college level at two different universities.
My family inspires me and anchors me
God, family, friends, and my profession are the most important things in my life. Keeping my priorities straight are important to ensuring success and happiness.
We love to travel together
My husband and I love to travel with our dogs Max and Beau. We visit many beautiful places throughout our country. There is beauty all around. We just need to open our eyes and see it.
"There are two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.
